Liv Jung —König

Liv Jung-Königs work bridges classical painting traditions with experimental material approaches. Since her gallery debut with mariART in 2024, her practice has gained significant momentum, resonating with both established collectors and new audiences. With twenty-four works placed within a single year — including eight at artKarlsruhe — Jung-König has quickly become a compelling presence in the contemporary German art scene.
Working primarily in acrylic, she combines traditional techniques with unconventional formats. Some of her paintings draw on imagery from Super-8 films and found Polaroids discovered at flea markets, translating moments of collective memory into atmospherically charged compositions. Other works take shape on unstreched canvases that are layered, folded, left raw at the edges, or assembled in multiple sheets, creating a tactile surface reminiscent of archival manuscripts. This process expands the pictorial space into a sculptural dimension, blurring the boundary between image and object. At times, she extends this exploration through individually painted wooden boards that can be arranged modularly on the wall.
Her work often carries a subtle sense of melancholy and nostalgia, inviting viewers into a poetic space that feels both intimate and quietly reflective. This emotional resonance, combined with her technical skill and material experimentation, positions Jung-König’s practice at the intersection of aesthetic nuance and conceptual depth.
Following her successful appearances at the Discovery Art Fair Frankfurt (2024, 2025) and her solo presentation at artKarlsruhe 2025, her work will be shown again at artKarlsruhe in 2026, in a solo exhibition at mariART Wiesbaden, and in summer 2026 at Chase Young Gallery in Boston (USA). Jung-König continues to expand her visual language while tracing new possibilities between painting, memory, and materiality.
