John
Petschinger
1994 — Austria
Incorporating various media and materials such as paper and resin in addition to painting, his works often emerge on metal plates that resemble the structure of billboards.
The layering of these components creates a reflective surface and a profound impact in both colorful and monochromatic compositions. In addition to his painting, Petschinger also engages with other media such as photography, where he further develops his views and thoughts, consciously breaking the creative process of painting.
In his new series "Stories," he explores human algorithmics and reflects on the fast-paced nature of our time. Through the use of AI and painting, a new hybrid entity is created that questions the fragile balance between humanity and progress.
The recurring floral element functions as both a signature-like hallmark and a visual anchor that repeatedly appears in his work. It introduces an additional figurative aspect that contrasts with the composition, creates a focal point, and often directs the viewer's gaze. More than a purely symbolic character, it reflects the origin of his work and the artist's personal connection to his mother, which he equates with the beauty and transience of life that binds everything together.
