Paul Wallington (b. 1993) is a South African painter based in Hamburg, Germany. He holds a Master’s degree from the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg, where he studied under Professor Anselm Reyle. He previously graduated from the Michaelis School of Fine Art at the University of Cape Town in 2019, receiving the prestigious Simon Gerson Award for an Outstanding Body of Work.

Wallington’s practice explores the tension between narrative, perception, and reality. Rooted in figurative painting, his work interrogates how we construct meaning in an increasingly complex and mediated world. Drawing inspiration from filmmakers like Adam Curtis, he questions the simplification of history and identity into digestible stories—stories that often drift far from reality. In a time when digital technologies create ever more convincing illusions, Wallington sees painting as a medium that unapologetically asserts its fictionality, inviting viewers to reflect on truth, narrative, and the role of art in shaping our understanding of the present.
